For us, this work is deeply meaningful, a sanctuary of nature, tradition, and community where healing unfolds with gentleness and depth. We are a family rooted in the Sacred Valley of Peru. Together with our young son, Ikal, we are creating a home where healing and community can flourish.
Small group Shipibo Ayahuasca retreats in the Sacred Valley of Peru.
Guided by experienced Shipibo maestros and held in an intimate and carefully prepared container, Kaya Rao offers a retreat environment focused on safety, depth and integration.
We host only a small number of retreats each year so that every guest receives personal attention and support before, during and after the experience
We work in small, intimate groups guided by Shipibo maestros, supported with love, safety, and presence. Together, we remember what it means to be children of the earth, held by Pachamama, the mountains, and the sacred plants.
There are many ayahuasca retreat centres in Peru and each one works in its own way.
Choosing where to sit with the medicine is an important decision and we encourage people to take time to research carefully before committing to any retreat.
Some of the most important things to consider include:
The experience and lineage of the maestros
The reputation and integrity of the facilitators
Preparation before the retreat
Integration support afterwards
Testimonials from previous guests
The size and atmosphere of the group
Kaya Rao was created around these values.
Our retreats are intentionally small, usually between five and ten guests. This allows us to spend more time supporting each participant and creates a calmer group dynamic.
Guests often tell us the retreat feels intentional and supportive. There is space to rest, reflect and speak with facilitators or maestros when needed.
Our focus is depth rather than volume.
Our retreats combine traditional Shipibo ayahuasca ceremonies with additional practices that support the overall healing process.
During the retreat guests experience:
• Three ayahuasca ceremonies in the Shipibo tradition
• Temazcal sweat lodge ceremony
• Despacho ceremony offering gratitude to Pachamama
• Flower baths and energetic cleansing
• Yoga and meditation practices
• Guided visit to a sacred site in the Sacred Valley
• Time in nature and personal reflection
• Private consultations with shipibo healers
• 1:1 ongoing support from the facilitators
The retreat also includes:
• Preparation call before the retreat
• Integration call after the retreat
• One month of group integration support
These practices help create a balanced container where the ceremonial work can unfold safely and be integrated afterwards.
People arrive at retreats for many different reasons.
Some feel burned out or overwhelmed by life.
Some feel stuck in repeating emotional patterns.
Some are navigating grief, trauma or difficult past experiences.
Others are searching for clarity, purpose or deeper connection.
Ayahuasca can help people see themselves and their lives from a different perspective. It can bring emotional release, new understanding and insight into patterns that may have been difficult to change.
It is not a quick solution and it is not the right path for everyone. But for many people it becomes a meaningful step in their healing journey.

Many guests tell us the small group environment and personal support are some of the most valuable aspects of the retreat.
Safety in this work depends on the people guiding the ceremonies, the preparation beforehand and the support afterwards. Before the retreat we conduct screening calls and review medical history, medications and personal intentions to make sure the retreat is appropriate.
During the retreat we maintain a small group environment with experienced facilitators present to support participants throughout the ceremonies.
After the retreat we provide integration support to help guests process their experience and begin applying insights in daily life. We also reserve the right to decline an application if we feel the retreat may not be the right fit. This helps protect the safety of the group.
Ayahuasca retreats in Peru vary widely in structure and price.
Some retreats operate with larger groups or frequent ceremonies. Our retreats are intentionally smaller and more personalised so that each guest receives deeper support.
Our retreats take place in the Sacred Valley of Peru.
The valley is surrounded by mountains, rivers and ancient Incan sites. Many people find the landscape grounding and supportive for inner work.
Being away from daily life creates space to slow down and focus on your process.
Alongside the ceremonies, guests experience the culture and natural environment of Peru which has shaped these traditions for generations.
